New Volunteer Program Encourages Business & Citizens
to Help Rebuild New Orleans

Launch of Volunteer New Orleans

On Wednesday, March 7, 2007, had the launch of Volunteer New Orleans - a new program in the Greater New Orleans area that seeks to create a coalition of businesses with a commitment to New Orleans recovery and encourage them to allow their employees a paid day of volunteer work.  The program also encourages citizens to become active in volunteer opportunities.

The program was born from an initiative by Cox Communications New Orleans. In late 2006, Cox pledged to allow each employee a paid day off in exchange for their work volunteering throughout the city. Cox employee Brad Grundmeyer saw the value in such a program and has expanded it citywide to encourage other businesses to do the same.  Grundmeyer created Volunteer New Orleans as a way of encouraging local on local support in the rebuilding of the region.
